What is Broadband?

Most ISPs (Internet Service Providers) advertise Broadband internet access as opposed to dial-up access. But what is exactly Broadband internet?

Without entering into the technicalities of the term broadband, I can assure you that we do not have broadband in Lebanon.

Broadband refers to high speed access to the internet, however the industry still didn't agree on what speed can be considered broadband. the ITU defines broadband as transmission above 1.5Mbs, the FCC sets broadband at 4.0Mbs and OECD defines broadband speed at 256 kbs. ISPs rely on the last definition to advertise their service as broadband.

Any definition you choose, it's obvious that we do not have broadband internet access. Are we really getting the 256kbs, 512kbs, 1Mbps we are buying ? NO!!

However what is certain is that we are paying the most expensive internet in the region and most probably in the world.

Switching the I-ME-WE cable is one of the short term solutions to get what we really deserve, we deserve every byte for every cent we are paying...
