I♥MEWE Stickers in Sa'yet Al Janzir!

More stickers put up in Beirut!

Working hard for that Internet!

What is Broadband?

Most ISPs (Internet Service Providers) advertise Broadband internet access as opposed to dial-up access. But what is exactly Broadband internet?

Without entering into the technicalities of the term broadband, I can assure you that we do not have broadband in Lebanon.

Broadband refers to high speed access to the internet, however the industry still didn't agree on what speed can be considered broadband. the ITU defines broadband as transmission above 1.5Mbs, the FCC sets broadband at 4.0Mbs and OECD defines broadband speed at 256 kbs. ISPs rely on the last definition to advertise their service as broadband.

Any definition you choose, it's obvious that we do not have broadband internet access. Are we really getting the 256kbs, 512kbs, 1Mbps we are buying ? NO!!

I♥MEWE Sticker Working Group Storms Gemmeyzeh

The Sticker Working Group of the Flip the Switch Campaign took to the streets in Gemmeyzeh. Their mission was to place I♥MEWE stickers wherever possible.

The team members were careful not to infringe on private property or cause any disturbance or destruction of public property. Dissolvable paper stickers were used to prevent any long-term asthetic damage.

Over two hours the team placed some 200 stickers. Their main targets were telephone booths and public-box exchanges (telephone switchboxes) but only a few were found.

Join the hard-working volunteers! Download the sticker, print it out and stick it in your neighborhood!

April 16 Meeting Minutes

FlipTheSwitch Meeting Minutes

Saturday, 16th of April 2011

 Meeting started at 4 PM:

Photographer present at the meeting.

Started out by giving out suggestions for the future actions to take. The first phase is the Grassroots Activism actions, which consist of spreading awareness of the campaign and its origins and disturb the comfort zone of the people in charge. Within two or three months, masses would’ve been gathered and if the demands are not met, there would be a protest/demonstration. The second phase, full scale demonstration, is not going to be considered right now as it is not the best way to get the word out.

grassroots campaign for faster internet in Lebanon

Unlike other campaigns for faster internet in Lebanon, Flip The Switch is focused on actionable items that lead to immediate results, whilst working towards implementing the full vision of liberalizing the telecom sector in Lebanon.

Internet For Students

2011The problem with Lebanese today, is that they do not realize we are in the 21st century, 2011! Being in the 21st century, the whole world is connected together by a state-of-the-art network of fiber-optic cables & satellites & radio waves. An information could spread worldwide in a matter of hours! This is truly the dawn of the technological age, no more boundaries, the world becoming one small village where ideas & innovations converge into one entity. Thus reaching new heights for Humanity!

Unfortunately, life isn't full of joy in Lebanon, being the last country when it comes to telecommunications.
